. Introduction
Food is an important part for the living of human beings, and it is also important to improve the quality of human being’s life. Food can also help the development of human being.  Food culture is formed through a long period of time and it has a close relationship with the development of human beings. In the primitive society, people got food through collecting and hunting. Obtaining food can help in solving the problem of hunger. With the increase of human being’s knowledge in nature, people began to conquer the nature. People tried to taste different kinds of plants and meat of animals. Gradually, they began to feed animals and domestic poultry. And this in return makes the food of human being more and more abundant. Human beings tried a lot of means to improve the flavor of food such as deodorization, heating and seasoning. With the development of technology, human beings have many ways to retain the freshness of food.
The combination of food and culture has a great effect on the development of human being.  Food culture is affected by resources, climate and geography. And during a long period of development, there has formed three major schools of food which include: the western food culture which is based on the French and Italian food; the eastern food which is based on Chinese food and Islamic food culture which is based on Arab countries. And along with the development of economy of the country, the western food culture and the eastern food culture has become the two major schools of food culture in the world. Both of them have their own features.   With the communication of human being, different food culture has permeated into another culture and they have helped different food culture to develop. The development of food will in return help the improvement and health of human being.
China is a country which has a great civilization, in which food culture also plays an important role in human civilization. Chinese food culture is the centre of eastern food culture and it already has a long history. With the development of reforming and openness to the outside world, the western food culture and the Chinese food culture has a great mutual influence. At the same time, this will affect the consumption concept, eating aesthetic and other entertainment activities. And the entering into WTO of China also has a great effect on the food culture of China.
Many experts have done a lot of research on food culture. In Chinese Book of Songs, there are records for corps. This means people have paid great attention to the food culture. There are many works about Chinese food culture. In the book Travel of Macro Polo, he described basic information and diet customs of Chinese people.
In the modern times, there are also a lot of books about the food. English man Davis wrote a book called “The Chinese: A General Description of China and Its Inhabitants”. In this book, he describes Chinese diet and cooking methods of Chinese food from the view of Westerners. He suggested that Chinese diet is totally different from French food and English food. He pointed out that Chinese food pays more attention to sensual pleasures. Carl Crow published his book “Chinese Manual” and described the supply of western food in China. Alice Tisdale Hobart suggested how to build up good social relationship through food. Pear Buck demonstrated the wedding ceremony of China. In the book “Face to Face with China” demonstrated that the focus on Chinese food can help to reduce the difference between eastern countries and western countries. In 2002, J.A.G Robert published the book called “China to Chinatown: Chinese Food in the West” which introduced Chinese food in the eye of westerners during different time period.
We will compare the different aspects of Chinese and Western food culture; we will find the difference and study the reason for the differences.
In this thesis, we will analyze the difference on diet concept, diet objects, Diet manner, and diet tableware and diet etiquette. We will analyze the difference from the view of culture.
Food culture is the culture which represents by food through the long period of diet customs. Food culture is based on food, and then represents a kind of civilization. In human being’s daily life, food has played an important part, so does the food culture. Food culture is also a kind of food aesthetic feeling.
Due to the difference in geography, climate, customs, along with the difference in resources, seasoning and taste and diet habit, there are big differences between Chinese and western food culture
